4. English Language Arts The ads may use any form of media. Students should choose an advertising media, and make an ad appropriate to that type. They should showcase a new type of pasta created by the student after research on the qualities of good pasta. The ads should be targeted to a certain audience and use language that is clear, accurate, and convincing.

5. Mathematics You can make 22 full servings from a 5-pound bag. Since there are 16 ounces in 1 pound, the 5-pound bag of dry pasta is equivalent to 5 × 16 = 80 ounces. If x represents the number of cups of cooked pasta that can be made from 80 ounces of dry pasta, then 2 cups / 4 ounces = x cups / 80 ounces. Multiplying both sides by 80 results in 160/4 = x, or x = 40 cups. Forty cups of pasta is the same as 40 ÷ 1¾ = 40 ÷ 7/4 = 40 × 4/7 = 22.86 servings.

4. Social Studies Rice has been genetically modified to add nutrients. For example, a type known as golden rice adds vitamin A. Grains can also be modified to be more resistant to pests or pesticides. While these modified grains have the potential to help some poorer populations, there is also uncertainty about unintended effects of genetic modification and the ability of corporations to exploit the technology. For these reasons, the issue is controversial.

5. Mathematics The 20-pound bag is the best buy because it has the lowest price per pound. The 20-pound bag sells for $19.59 ÷ 20 = $0.9795 ≈ $0.98 per pound. The 12-pound bag sells for $12.99 ÷ 12 = $1.0825 ≈ $1.08 per pound. The 5-pound bag sells for $7.75 ÷ 5 = $1.55 per pound.
