The Best Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies on the Planet

This is no exaggeration — these are fantastic cookies. They’re crispy and chewy at the same time.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening (or 1 cup butter; or 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2-1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1-1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup raisins

Preparation Procedures

  1. Cream together shortening, brown sugar, and white sugar.
  2. Add egg, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, salt, and baking soda and combine.
  3. Stir in oats, flour, and raisins.
  4. Roll into 1" balls and place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
  5. Flatten balls using a floured fork.
  6. Bake at 350 F for 8 to 10 minutes, rotating cookie sheets after 5 minutes.
