Rise-and-Shine French Toast

Yield: 8  (4 servings)


  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 cup half-and-half cream
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 8 slices, thick French (or Italian) bread

Preparation Procedure

  1. Measure flour into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Slowly whisk in the cream.
  3. Add eggs, salt, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat. When the skillet is hot, melt enough butter to coat it completely.
  5. Soak bread slices in the mixture until saturated. Cook bread on each side until golden brown.
  6. Sprinkle a little icing sugar over the French toast before serving.
  7. Serve with toping of choice (sugar, syrup, fresh fruit, yogurt, fruit reduction, ice cream, etc.)
Note: If you want to make these into a Christmas time treat, substitute egg nog for the cream and add ½ tsp. of ground nutmeg.
