Planning a Party

Context: You work for a Party Planning Business in the Ottawa Valley and you have been asked to plan a special event this fall.
 
Design Brief: To design and create a Party.

 

Possible Solutions: List as many possible solutions as you can for a fall party.

 

Design Constraints: The following are some constraints or limitations for this project:

  1. You will work in groups.
  2. Three students will be chosen to be the business partners who will approve all aspects of the Party before they are presented to the client (Mr. Ferguson).
  3. The Party will be planned and executed by the end of the month.
  4. Your group will prepare a professional proposal for the area of responsibility that you have as well as a back up proposal. Both proposals must be approved by the business partners before presenting them to Mr. Ferguson.
  5. The theme will be Halloween/Christmas/Valentine's Day (as appropriate for the season).
  6. Your group will prepare a detailed budget for your area of responsibility.
  7. Mr. Ferguson will assign you to one of the following areas of responsibility:
    • Business Partners (3)
      • Publicity (invitations, marketing, and promotions)
      • Food and Beverage
      • Décor
      • Music and Entertainment
  8. The following samples need to be created (see Checklist):
    • new client information form (all groups)
    • event budget checklist (for your area of responsibility)
    • script for talking to a prospective client (about your area of responsibility)
    • contracts to use with your clients (for your area of responsibility)
    • event venue evaluation sheets (for your area of responsibility)
    • event planning timeline (for all areas of responsibility by three business partners)
    • business card for an event planner (by all, narrowed down to one. All drafts handed in)
    • print ads (for your area of responsibility)
    • event planning brochure (by all, narrowed down to one. All drafts handed in)
    • press release (by all, narrowed down to one. All drafts handed in)
    • after-event thank-you note (by all, narrowed down to one. All drafts handed in)
    • invoice (for all areas of responsibility by three business partners)
    • Create helpful lists including: event supplies, emergency resources
    • Design and Create a paper web site with multiple pages and paper links

Detail Design: The following are the steps to designing and making your Project:

  1. Ensure that the work area is clear of hazardous materials (i.e., oil, gas, rags, wood, plastic, etc.)
  2. Develop party and any other specific tasks related to your area of responsibility.
  3. Clean-up your work area and put your tools away.

 

Materials: as required. Books, pamphlets, internet, etc.

 

Commissioning: Were you successful in this project when you tried it out?

 

Evaluation: Did this project work as you expected it to?
